Catholic Funeral : ウィキペディア英語版
Roman Catholic funeral
A Roman Catholic funeral is carried out in accordance with the prescribed rites of the Catholic Church. Such funerals are referred to in Catholic canon law as "ecclesiastical funerals" and are dealt with in (canons 1176–1185 ) of the Code of Canon Law and (canons 874–879 ) of the Code of Canons of the Eastern Churches. In Catholic funerals, the Church seeks firstly to offer the Mass for the benefit of the soul of the deceased, that the temporal effects of sin in Purgatory may be extinguished and, secondly, to provide condolence and comfort for the deceased's family and exhort them to pray, along with the Church, for the soul of the departed.
==Canon law==
In general, Roman Catholics are to be given a Catholic funeral on their death.〔(Code of Canon Law, canon 1176 )〕 Catechumens are to be considered as Catholics as regards funerals,〔(canon 1183 §1 )〕〔(Code of Canons of the Eastern Churches, canon 875 )〕 and the local ordinary may permit unbaptized children whose parents intended to have them baptized to be given a Catholic funeral.〔(Code of Canon Law, canon 1183 §2 )〕〔(Code of Canons of the Eastern Churches, canon 876 §2 )〕 The local ordinary may also permit baptized persons who were not Catholic to be given a Catholic funeral, unless they were clearly opposed to it and provided their own minister is not available.〔(Code of Canon Law, canon 1183 §3 )〕〔(Code of Canons of the Eastern Churches, canon 876 §1 )〕
On the other hand, Catholic burial rites are to be refused even to baptized Catholics who fall within the following classifications, unless they gave some sign of repentance before death:
# Persons publicly known to be guilty of apostasy, heresy or schism;
# Those who asked to be cremated for anti-Christian motives;
# Manifest sinners, if the granting of Church funeral rites to them would cause scandal to Catholics.〔(Code of Canon Law, canon 1184 )〕〔(Code of Canons of the Eastern Churches, canons 876 §3 and 877 )〕
The Latin Church also has some rules that are not common to all the Catholic Eastern Churches regarding the church in which the funeral rites are to be celebrated,〔(canons 1177-1179 )〕 the funeral dues that are payable to a priest for conducting the funeral and the cemetery in which they are to be buried.〔(canon 1180 )〕
